Achluophobia
Fear of darkness
The name comes from the Greek achlys, “darkness, mist”, and achluophobia means fear of the dark. The fear is common in young children: it rarely appears before the age of two, peaks around age four, and most children outgrow it. Often the person is not afraid of darkness itself, but of dangers they imagine are hiding in it.
