Administrative Palace in Arad

Arad, Arad

The Administrative Palace dominates Revolution Boulevard in Arad through its clock tower. Inaugurated in 1877, the building was designed by Ödön Lechner, modified by architect Ferenc Pekár to reduce costs. The tower, 54 meters high, and the facade decoration are reminiscent of Flemish town halls. The clock was brought from Switzerland the year after the inauguration.

At the entrance there is a monumental staircase with red marble, and in the stairwell there are stained glass windows made by Sever Frențiu. Their compositions represent the seasons and months of the year. The palace houses administrative institutions, so the usual visit follows the exterior from the boulevard area. Access to the halls and rooms of the building depends on the rules of the institutions and any organized visits. Its position allows the continuation of the walk towards the other palaces in the center of Arad.
