Administrative Palace in Deva

Deva, Hunedoara

The Administrative Palace in Deva was built between 1887 and 1889 for the Hunedoara county administration. The project belongs to the architect Ignác Alpár, and the works were carried out by Oriold and Endstrasser from Cluj. The new building replaced the administrative premises that had become too cramped in the Magna Curia. Today it houses the Hunedoara Prefecture and County Council.

The facade follows the curve of 1 Decembrie 1918 street and opens to the public space. The ground floor has a massive decor, with accented plaster joints, and the first floor uses brick surfaces and rich frames. The architecture combines historical elements in a composition inspired by the German Renaissance. As a working administrative building, the tourist stop focuses on the exterior; access to offices and halls follows the rules of the institutions hosted here.
