Afteia Monastery

Mărgineni, Alba

The Afteia Monastery is located in Alba County, in the area of the villages of Strungari and Mărgineni, between wooded hills. The monastery is dedicated to the Holy Emperors Constantine and Helena. The large church, with a tall steeple, the summer altar and the buildings of the monastic community make up the ensemble that pilgrims encounter on this historic monastic site.

The place was known as the Hermitage of Plăișor and is linked to Saint Sophronius, defender of the Transylvanian Orthodox in the eighteenth century. The monastery was reactivated in 1926. The patronal feast services gather believers in the premises, and the visit is carried out with respect for the life of the monastic community.
