Agapia Monastery

Agapia, Neamț

Agapia Monastery is in Agapia commune, Neamț County, in the valley of the stream of the same name. The church was built between 1641 and 1643, and the convent expanded around it. The murals painted by Nicolae Grigorescu in 1858–1861 are among the monastery’s highlights.

The inner courtyard is surrounded by cells with galleries and balconies, with flower gardens in between. The museum keeps icons, books and religious objects. Nearby is the memorial house of Alexandru Vlahuță, linked to the writer's stays in the monastic village.
