Alexandru Buia Botanical Garden

Craiova, Dolj

The Alexandru Buia Botanical Garden is in Craiova, Dolj County, and belongs to the University of Craiova. It was established in 1952 for the study of plants and the training of students, under the guidance of the botanist Alexandru Buia. The collections bring together species from Romania's flora and from other regions of the world.

The sectors of the garden include ornamental plants, cultivated plants, a rose garden and collections organized by taxonomic relationships or geographical origin. Lakes and landscaped terrain create different conditions for vegetation. The greenhouses, the herbarium and the botanical museum support the institution’s scientific work. The paths run through groups of trees and shrubs, and the flowers and foliage change the appearance of the garden throughout the seasons.
