Aluniș Lake in Sovata

Sovata, Mureș

Aluniș Lake is located in the resort of Sovata, Mureș County, west of Ursu Lake. The salt lake lies in a hollow, about 60 meters from the larger lake. It was formed by water flowing out of Lake Ursu, which flooded the site of an old salt mine used by the people of Măgherani. The lake has an area of approximately 3,670 square meters and a maximum depth of 7.4 meters.

The banks are surrounded by trees, and on one side are the facilities of the bathing area. The salty water and the closeness to the resort's paths have made Aluniș one of the bathing spots of Sovata. The water warms up enough for bathing during the summer. From the bank you can clearly see the shape of the basin and how it sits among the surrounding wooded slopes.
