Amara Lake

Lake Amara is located near the resort of Amara, 7 kilometers from Slobozia, in the Bărăgan Plain. It is a natural S-shaped lake, occupying a former bed of the Ialomiţa. It is about 130 hectares and at most 4 meters deep.

The lake is a natural reserve for birds: the little egret, the gray heron, the mute swan and dozens of other protected species live here. According to Amara’s tourist information centre, chemist Petru Poni analysed the composition of the lake water.
