Annunciation Greek Church in Brăila

Brăila, Brăila

The Annunciation Greek Church is located on Calea Călărașilor, near Piața Traian in Brăila. Built in the nineteenth century with the support of the Greek community, it recalls the trade links and the people who shaped the life of the Danube port. The richly ornate exterior, dome and tower stand out among the buildings on the street. From near the gate, you can see the arches, the tiers of the facade and the way in which the different volumes overlap.

The interior preserves paintings made in several stages, including works by Gheorghe Tătărescu. Columns and chandeliers complete the decor of a church built for the city’s Greek community. The visit can be part of a walking route through the historic center, along with the other churches and old houses. Visitors can go inside as long as they respect the services and follow the staff’s instructions.
