Apór Palace in Alba Iulia
The Apór Palace in Alba Iulia is located in the northern part of the Alba Carolina Fortress, near the Batthyaneum Library. It was built in the second half of the seventeenth century for Ștefan Apór, former treasurer of the principality of Transylvania. The building preserves elements of the transition from Renaissance architecture to Baroque decoration. The central stone portal is decorated with the family coat of arms, guarded by two lions.
The facade has windows with carved frames and symmetrically arranged entrances. Inside, the monumental staircases, columns and portals decorated with weapons, helmets and plant motifs show the noble character of the residence. Today, the palace houses the rectorate of the University 1 December 1918. The exterior can be observed from the public space of the fortress, and access to the interior is subject to the rules of the university institution.
