Armenian Catholic Church in Gheorgheni
Gheorgheni, Harghita
The Armenian Catholic Church of the Nativity of Our Lady in Gheorgheni is surrounded by an irregularly shaped stone wall with battlements. The Baroque church has a single nave, a tower and a three-lobed side chapel with a portico.
The four altars and the pulpit were made between 1752 and 1754. The most valuable work, painted in 1752 at the Armenian Mekhitarist monastery in Venice, shows Saint Gregory the Illuminator baptizing King Tiridates III. The ceiling frescoes date from 1889.
