Art Museum in Piatra Neamț

Piatra Neamț, Neamț

The Piatra Neamț Art Museum occupies a former primary school, built in 1930 near the Princely Court. The art collection was started in 1960, and the institution became a museum in 1980. The painter Iulia Hălăucescu and her husband, Petronius Hălăucescu, helped build the collection.

The collection includes works by artists connected with the Neamț area, including Aurel Băeșu, Lascăr Vorel, Iulia Hălăucescu and Simona Vasiliu-Chintilă. A donation from the collector Paul Gotcu added works by Nicolae Tonitza, Gheorghe Petrașcu and Francisc Șirato. The building itself is of architectural interest: it was designed by Roger Bolomey and Fr. Droz, with decorations by Vincenzo Puschiasis.
