Art Museum in Târgoviște

Târgoviște, Dâmbovița

The Târgoviște Art Museum is located in the former Prefecture Palace, a building from the end of the nineteenth century on Calea Domnească. The facade combines a classical composition and baroque-inspired decorations, and the interiors retain some of the representative layout of the old institution. In the former Council Hall you can see decorative paintings with plant motifs and images of Târgoviște monuments, made in the years 1894–1895.

The visit allows you to follow the works of art and the architecture in which they are exhibited. The museum's collections and exhibitions include Romanian art, and the institution's presentation reserves the ground floor for early Romanian art. The decoration of the halls, the frames and the representations of the Princely Court offer other points of interest along the route. For temporary exhibitions, it is worth consulting the museum page before the visit, as the selection of works and their distribution in the rooms may change.
