Art Museum in Târgu Jiu
The Târgu Jiu Art Museum is housed in the former official guesthouse on Traian Street, on the north side of Central Park. The collection covers modern and contemporary Romanian painting, with works by Gheorghe Petrașcu, Corneliu Baba, Mișu Popp and Vasile Blendea. The work of Iosif Keber, a painter from the town, holds a special place in the collection; the museum owns a large number of his works.
The galleries display easel paintings and religious art, including icons and carved wooden pieces. The museum has been in this building since 1993; the section itself was founded in 1984. While work is under way in Central Park, visitors enter through the north gate, on the stadium side, according to the museum's published instructions.
