Astra Cultural Palace in Sighetu Marmației
The Astra Cultural Palace in Sighetu Marmației, also known today as the Episcopal Palace, was built in 1912–1913 to a design by the architect Sándy Gyula. The building at the junction of Iuliu Maniu and Nicolae Titulescu streets has two wings arranged around a central body and towers that give it the appearance of a romantic castle. The facades combine plaster with exposed brick decorations.
After restoration, the palace was reopened in 2022 and houses the Pastoral Cultural Center "Saint Joseph the Confessor". Its spaces are used for exhibitions, meetings and cultural activities, and the institution publishes visiting hours. The monumental staircase, the entrance portal and the massing of the towers are important elements of the building's architecture.
