Automysophobia
Fear of being dirty or smelling bad
Being dirty or smelling bad is what frightens a person with automysophobia, a word formed from the Greek autos, “self”, and mysophobia, the fear of dirt. In his book Psychology in the Bathroom (2012), Nick Haslam mentions a case described in 1987: a teenage girl in Japan treated with hypnosis for this fear.
