Avram Iancu's Oak in Blaj

Blaj, Alba

Avram Iancu's oak tree is the most famous natural monument in Blaj. It is over 600 years old and has a circumference of 6.40 meters and is located in the Avram Iancu Park, the former garden of the Metropolitan Castle.

The tree received its name after 1849: according to tradition, Avram Iancu and Bishop Alexandru Sterca-Șuluțiu sat for days in its shade. Also under this oak, bishop Inochentie Micu-Klein is said to have completed the city plans in 1737.
