Avramide House

Tulcea, Tulcea

The Avramide House in Tulcea, also known as the House of Collections, is located on Progresului Street, near the Saint Nicholas Cathedral. It was built at the end of the nineteenth century for Alexandru Avramide, a local entrepreneur of Greek origin. The rooms retain stucco decorations, painted ceilings and high doors, and one of the facades is preceded by a monumental staircase with marble mosaics. The architecture and interior decoration show the level of comfort of a wealthy family from Tulcea in the past.

The building also has a long museum history. In 1950, it housed the first exhibition rooms of the "Danube Delta" Museum, and later housed sections of archaeology, ethnography and natural sciences. Today, the tour of the Avramide House presents the history of the family, the urban life of Tulcea and pieces from the collections of the "Gavrilă Simion" Eco-Museum Research Institute. The decorated halls are part of the museum visit, along with the heritage objects. The House of Collections is a component of the Northern Dobrogean Cultural Heritage Museum Complex.
