Azizyie Mosque in Tulcea
Azizyie Mosque is the place of worship of the local Muslim community in Tulcea, in the historic part of the city, on 14 Noiembrie Street. Its name recalls Sultan Abdul Aziz. The carved stone building has numerous windows arranged on two levels, which illuminate the prayer hall and inner gallery. The white minaret, erected near the main body, can be seen from the nearby streets and from the Danube area. The mosque preserves part of the heritage of the Ottoman period of Tulcea.
The official tourism platform of the municipality mentions the reconstruction of the minaret in 1897, with funds from the Ministry of Cults and Public Instruction. A Turkish school operated next to the mosque, connected to the community life of the old quarter. On the outside you can see the masonry, the arched windows and the contrast between the low prayer hall and the slender minaret. Windows on the upper level illuminate the gallery that surrounds the interior on three sides.
