Banu Church in Buzău

Buzău, Buzău

The Banu Church, dedicated to the Annunciation, is located on Bistriței street in Buzău. Its history starts from a monastery founded in the sixteenth century. The church was rebuilt in 1593 by Andronic Cantacuzino, grand ban, from whose rank comes the name by which it is known. In 1722, Andreiana Cantacuzino financed a new intervention on the place.

Earthquakes and subsequent repairs modified the building. In the nineteenth century, the carved oak furniture and iconostasis were made, and Gheorghe Tattarescu participated in the decoration of the church. After the dissolution of the monastery in the time of Alexandru Ioan Cuza, the place continued to function as a parish church. The visit looks at this historic church and its elements of architecture and religious art.
