Beheading of Saint John the Baptist Church in Ștefănești
Ștefănești, Argeș
The Church of the Beheading of Saint John the Baptist in Ștefănești was founded in 1627 by Mușat, a sluger (a boyar official who supplied the princely court with meat), and his wife, Despina. It has a tower above the nave and a belfry above the narthex, and in 1925 the porch was added.
The interior was painted in oils in 1910 by Nicolae Tomescu and Haralambie Nedelescu. The church keeps the main icons of the iconostasis, painted by Voicu, a church painter from Pitești. It is a historical monument.
