Bigăr Waterfall
The Bigăr waterfall is located in the Miniș Valley, in the area of Bozovici commune in Caraș-Severin county, near the road between Anina and Bozovici. The water coming from a karst spring passes over travertine deposits and reaches the Miniș river. Travertine is formed by the deposition of calcium carbonate from water, and the mosses that grow on the wet surface contribute to the appearance of the site.
On June 7, 2021, a large part of the formation detached and collapsed. The rupture changed the silhouette of the waterfall, known from older photographs for its rounded shape. Today one can see the broken edge and the way the water flows over the remaining portions. The area can be visited using the provided access and following the instructions of the administration of the Cheile Nerei–Beușnița National Park.
