Black Lake in Sovata

Sovata, Mureș

The Black Lake in Sovata, Mureș County, was formed in 1710 on the site of an old salt mine. Salt dissolution and human intervention contributed to the appearance of the basin, one of the resort's oldest lakes. Its surface is approximately 3,810 square meters, and the depth reaches 6.2 meters. The green banks and the buildings of the spa complex frame the surface of the lake.

On the bottom of the lake there is gray and black mud, used in the local spa tradition. The lake water is pumped into an outdoor pool and heated by solar panels. The natural lake and the landscaped pool therefore have different roles in the visit. For a dedicated scenery stop, points of interest are the salt lake basin and its shores; access to spa services is checked with the operator.
