Blobfish
Psychrolutes marcidus
In the deep waters around Australia, Tasmania and New Zealand, the blobfish lives at 600–1,200 metres, where the pressure is 60–120 times greater than at the surface. Its flesh is a jelly-like mass, slightly lighter than water, which lets it float above the sea floor without swimming. It is usually shorter than 30 cm and eats whatever floats in front of it, such as crustaceans.
