Bologna is a city in northern Italy known for its porticoes, university tradition and local gastronomy. Piazza Maggiore, the Basilica of San Petronio and the medieval towers are landmarks of the center. Arcaded streets and warm-hued buildings retain the atmosphere of an old university town.
