Brâncoveni Monastery

Brâncoveni, Olt

Brâncoveni Monastery is in Brâncoveni commune, Olt County, on the historic estate of the Brâncoveanu family. The complex is linked to the rulers Matei Basarab and Constantin Brâncoveanu. The large church was built at the end of the seventeenth century, on the site of an older building.

The precinct includes churches, a bell tower, cells and stone and brick walls. The church holds tombs of the founders’ family, including that of Stanca, the mother of Constantin Brâncoveanu. The porch, the columns and the carved decoration belong to the Wallachian tradition of church architecture, shaped by successive rebuildings.
