Breb Village

Maramureș County, Romania

Breb is located in Ocna Șugatag commune, Maramureș County, in the Mara-Cosău area, at the foot of the Gutâi Mountains. The village has kept its homesteads with wooden houses and gates, orchards and hay meadows that climb the surrounding hills. Above the roofs you can see the rocky relief of Cresta Cocoșului.

The wooden church and the lanes between the homesteads are the village's landmarks. On the surrounding land, hay meadows and gardens are still worked in the traditional way. The name of the village comes from Valea Brebilor and from the old word "breb", used for beaver. Lake Morărenilor is located near the village.
