Bust of Badea Cârțan in Făgăraș

Făgăraș, Brașov

The bust of Badea Cârțan from Făgăraș is located near the House of Culture. The monument evokes Gheorghe Cârțan, the shepherd originally from Cârțișoara who distributed Romanian books in Transylvania. The portrait carved in stone shows him with a hat and pronounced facial features.

The work was created by Vasile Blendea, a sculptor who made portraits and monuments dedicated to personalities of Romanian culture and history. The bust from Făgăraș can be seen from the public space around the House of Culture. It preserves in the center of the city the memory of the links between the villages of Țara Făgărașului and the initiatives to support the Romanian language and culture.
