Bust of Lady Stanca in Făgăraș
The bust of Lady Stanca is located near the Făgăraș Fortress, in the area of its southeastern side. The monument represents the wife of Michael the Brave, whose name is linked to the history of the fortress. The sculpture, placed on a high plinth, can be seen during a walk around the fortification.
The work was made by the sculptor Spiridon Georgescu and inaugurated in 1938, at the initiative of Nicolae Iorga. The portrait of Lady Stanca and the inscription on the plinth form a distinct commemorative monument, placed in the public space. From around the bust you can see the walls of the fortress, which explains the choice of this place to evoke the historical character.
