Călui Monastery
Călui, Olt
Călui Monastery is in Călui commune, Olt County. The church was started in the sixteenth century and finished in 1588 by the Buzești brothers, known for their support for Mihai Viteazul. The stone inscription records this stage of construction and the names of the founders.
Inside are murals from the late sixteenth century, including votive portraits of the Buzești family and depictions of the rulers Mihai Viteazul and Petru Cercel. Preda and Radu Buzescu are buried in the church. The precinct walls and the bell tower complete the old monastic ensemble.
