Cetățuia Monastery
Iași, Iași
On a hill in the south of Iași, Iași County, Cetățuia Monastery preserves a seventeenth-century fortified complex. Its founder was Prince Gheorghe Duca. The hilltop site and the stone walls were chosen so that the monastery could also serve as a place of refuge.
The grounds include the Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul, the Gothic Hall, the Princely House and the bell tower. A printing press with Greek type operated here. The complex was restored in the interwar period, and the hill offers views over the city's neighborhoods.
