Charlottenburg Village
Charlottenburg, a village in Bogda commune, Timiș county, was built in the eighteenth century according to a circular plan. Founded by German-speaking settlers during the Habsburg administration, the village retains its ring of houses and streets arranged around a central space.
The church and the green area occupy the middle of the circle, and the households have aligned facades and courtyards developed outwards. The plan is most easily recognizable in aerial images, but also when walking on the street that surrounds the center. Traditional houses and agricultural outbuildings preserve landmarks of the old Swabian community of Banat.
