Church and former Franciscan monastery in Făgăraș
The Roman Catholic Church in Făgăraş and the buildings of the former Franciscan monastery form an ensemble on Vasile Alecsandri Street. The Franciscans built a church and a monastery here in 1737, on the grounds of a manor house donated to the order. The fire that affected the city in 1760 also destroyed these buildings, which were rebuilt in the following decades. The church is dedicated to the Holy Trinity.
The ensemble includes the church tower and the wings of the former convent, organized around the courtyard. Its history is also linked to the school run by the Franciscans, established in the eighteenth century. Since 1997, the church and the former monastery have been under the administration of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Alba Iulia. The building functions as a parish church, and access to the premises of the former convent depends on their use and administration.
