Church in Borzești
Borzești, Bacău
In Borzești, part of the city of Onești, Bacău County, stands the Church of the Dormition of the Mother of God. It was founded by Stephen the Great and his son Alexandru between 1493 and 1494. The building keeps forms typical of late fifteenth-century Moldavian churches.
The facades show stone and brick, niches and ornaments around the windows. The dedicatory inscription records the founders and when the church was built. Local tradition links the place to the story of the Borzești oak and to Stephen the Great’s childhood. The tall roof runs along the long walls, built of rough stone, dressed stone and brick.
