Ciprian Porumbescu Memorial House

Ciprian Porumbescu (Stupca) · Suceava

The Ciprian Porumbescu Memorial House is located in the village of the same name in Suceava county, formerly known as Stupca. The exhibition is set up in an original annex of the former parish house where the priest Iraclie Porumbescu's family lived. The small building with a porch and a high roof was opened as a museum in 1953.

The rooms hold family objects, furniture, photographs and documents related to the composer. Among the exhibits is the piano of Mărioara Rațiu-Porumbescu, Ciprian's sister. The arrangement evokes family life and the musician's connection with the village where he grew up. The memorial house is part of a larger complex, together with the memorial museum set up in another building and the family graves in the cemetery. The porch and the small rooms keep the proportions of a rural house in Bucovina.
