Claustrophobia
Fear of enclosed spaces
The Latin claustrum, “an enclosed place”, is the root of the word claustrophobia, the fear of confined spaces. Lifts, tunnels, trains, planes or windowless rooms can trigger it, and it often leads to panic attacks. The main treatment is behaviour training, and deep breathing exercises and relaxation also help.
