Clock Tower in Sighișoara
Sighișoara, Mureș
The Clock Tower rises above the main entrance to the Sighișoara citadel, in Mureș County. Built in the Middle Ages for defense, the tower also housed the city council. Its high roof, balcony and dials can be seen above the houses in the historic center.
The clock has wooden figurines representing personifications of the days of the week and other symbolic characters. The mechanism has been replaced and repaired several times, and the current clock was installed in 1906. The rooms of the tower are used by the history museum, and the top of the tower offers views over the citadel and the Târnava Mare valley.
