Constantin Găvenea Memorial House
The Constantin Găvenea Memorial House is located on 24 Ianuarie Street in Tulcea, in the house where the artist settled with his family in 1942. The building, built in the first decades of the twentieth century, was restored by the municipality and opened as a museum in 2012. The hall and the four exhibition rooms keep personal items, manuscripts, photographs, books and albums with dedications. In the yard is also the workshop where the painter worked.
Lithographs, watercolors and paintings represent different stages of Găvenea’s artistic career. Many of the works capture Tulcea of the past: houses, streets, squares and the port, before the urban transformations of the last decades. The collection thus links the biography of the artist with the visual memory of the city. The house is managed by the Tulcea Heritage Maintenance and Administration Directorate and welcomes visitors with prior notice. The official tourism platform recommends contacting the administrator before the visit to establish access to the rooms and the workshop.
