Council Square
Piața Sfatului occupies the center of the old citadel of Brașov and has at its center the Council House, the former city hall. The square is lined with houses with colorful facades, high roofs and commercial spaces on the ground floor. Streets open from the square to the Black Church, Republicii Street and the old fortifications.
This is where fairs were held, drawing merchants from Transylvania, Wallachia and other countries. Each kind of goods had its set place, and names like Șirul Inului and Șirul Florilor recall this division. The Council House, with its clock tower, has remained the square's landmark and hosts exhibitions of the Brașov County Museum of History.
