Cozia Monastery
Călimănești, Vâlcea
The Cozia Monastery is located in Călimănești, Vâlcea County, on the banks of the Olt River, at the entrance to the mountain gorge. The main church was founded by Mircea the Elder in the fourteenth century and preserves the stone and brick decoration characteristic of its medieval architecture.
The ruler's tomb can be found in the narthex, and the painting and carved frames can be seen in the church. The courtyard is bordered by monastic buildings with galleries, also facing the river. Across the road, the complex includes the hospital church from the sixteenth century, known for its preserved mural painting.
