Crete

Greece
Crete is the largest and most populous island in Greece, and its capital is Heraklion. It was the centre of the Minoans, Europe's first advanced civilization, from 2700 to 1420 BC, and the Minoan palace of Knossos lies near Heraklion. The island also has the Samaria Gorge, the Venetian old town of Chania and, at Vai, the largest natural palm forest in Europe.
