Dâmbovicioara Gorge
The Dâmbovicioara Gorge is located in Argeș County, on the valley that connects Podu Dâmboviței to the Dâmbovicioara village. The stream cut through the limestone of the southern Piatra Craiului Mountains, leaving steep walls on either side of the road. In the narrow areas, the road, the water and the rocks share the same path, and above them you can see cracks, edges and vegetation caught on the slopes.
On the valley there are sections of gorges, also known by the names Cheia Mare and Cheia Mică. Further up, the Dâmbovicioara Cave adds an underground route to the same limestone area. The gorge can be seen from the access road, with stops only where permitted and safe. For the sections covered on foot, road traffic must be taken into account, because the space next to the road narrows in several places.
