Dealu Monastery
Viforâta, Dâmbovița
Dealu Monastery is in Viforâta village, Aninoasa commune, Dâmbovița County, on a hill near Târgoviște. The Church of Saint Nicholas was built by Radu cel Mare between 1499 and 1501. The dressed-stone facades are divided by two rows of blind arches.
Three towers rise above the church; the two smaller ones stand over the narthex. The monastery is also a princely necropolis, where the head of Michael the Brave is kept. Around the courtyard are the cells, the chapel and the bell tower. The monastery is also linked to the beginnings of Romanian printing, through the work of the hieromonk Macarie in the early sixteenth century.
