Decebalus Rock Sculpture
The face of Decebal is carved into the rock on the Romanian bank of the Danube, in the area of Dubova, Mehedinți county, near Orșova. The monumental portrait rises above the water, between wooded slopes. Under the figure of the Dacian king can be seen the inscription "Decebalus Rex - Dragan Fecit", which links the name of the monument to its initiator, Iosif Constantin Drăgan.
The work was finished in 2004, after more than ten years of preparations and carving of the rock. The monument is approximately 43 meters high. The image of the face, the inscription at the base and the surrounding relief can be seen from the area of the road that follows the bank of the Danube, at a stop on the route between Orșova and Dubova.
