Deva Fortress

Deva, Hunedoara County

The Deva fortress stands on the hill that dominates the city of Deva, in Hunedoara county. The first documentary attestation is from 1269. From the height, those in the fortress could defend and supervise the surroundings.

The fortification was expanded in several stages, so the preserved walls and enclosures belong to different periods. The route between the walls and gates follows the shape of the hill, and from the highest points you can see the city and the Mureș valley. The alleys are sloping and have steps, so you need comfortable shoes.
