Dezna Fortress

Dezna, Arad

The Dezna Fortress is located on a hill near the town of Dezna, in Arad County, in the Codru-Moma Mountains area. The medieval fortification dominated the road that climbs into the interior of the mountains. It was of particular importance in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, when it was part of the defense system of western Transylvania.

Today fragments of the walls and fortifications built in different stages are preserved. Rock stone, river stone and brick were used in the construction. The hill of the fortress rises on the right bank of the Moneasa river, at the northeastern edge of the village.
