Dormition of the Mother of God–Afumați Church in Ocnele Mari

The Church of the Dormition of Our Lady-Afumați in Ocnele Mari is linked, by tradition, to voivode Radu de la Afumați and the year 1525. The brick and stone church has undergone several restorations, including the addition of the porch and the bell tower in the eighteenth century. Earthquakes and wars severely damaged the building, which remained closed to worship for a long time.

The restoration started in 2017 strengthened the masonry, restored the towers and conserved the interior paintings. The church was consecrated again on May 1, 2022. You can see the restored forms of the construction and the preserved painting fragments; access to the interior depends on parish opening hours and services.
