Dormition of the Mother of God Cathedral in Giurgiu

Giurgiu, Giurgiu

The Cathedral of the Dormition of the Mother of God in Giurgiu dates from 1852. After the departure of the Ottomans, the Christians asked in 1832 for permission to use the stone from the walls of the Giurgiu fortress for the new church.

An inscription from 1859 recalls that there was an underground church on the same site from 1806, with the same patron. The building is a historical monument.
