Dormition of the Mother of God Cathedral in Reșița
The Church of the Dormition of the Mother of God in Reșița Montană is located on Republicii street and is locally known as the cathedral due to its size. It was built between 1938 and 1941 to a design by architect Victor Vlad. The Greek cross plan, the central dome and the four smaller towers belong to the neo-Byzantine composition of the church.
The frescoes painted by Gheorghe Vânătoru between 1967 and 1970, before the consecration in 1972, are preserved inside. The visit offers the opportunity to observe the architecture and painting of a monumental Orthodox church in the city. Being an active place of worship, access is adapted to the parish schedule, and visitors keep quiet and respect the services and the rules regarding photography.
