Dormition of the Mother of God Church in Lipova

Lipova, Arad

The Church of the Dormition of the Mother of God in Lipova is located on 9 Mai street and preserves parts of a medieval church. The building was enlarged in 1797, and in 1928 interior galleries were added. The tower and the facades combine baroque and rococo elements with the older structure of the church.

Paintings from several eras are preserved inside. The frescoes made by Nedelcu in 1732 and the icons of Ștefan Tenețchi are among the important works of the ensemble. The richly decorated iconostasis and the carved bishop's throne complete the arrangement. In the past, the church had the role of an episcopal cathedral. The restoration and conservation of the paintings carried out between 2017 and 2024 aimed to protect these historical layers.
